Question 35 – How to Organize My Study of My Catholic Faith
Question 35 – How to Organize My Study of My Catholic Faith
I'm an old guy-58 this coming June. I converted after my wife died on '01. Since then I have been reading the bible for about 45 minutes daily, in a number of translations. I also began reading the Vatican II catechism about 20 minutes per day. This includes reading the Council of Trent Catechism. I have a growing library of Catholic volumes, including your 3 volumes not by faith alone, not by scripture alone, not by bread alone. I could spend the rest of my mortal life wandering thru these and other volumes. I also listen to Fr. Corapi's teaching on the catechism.
My question is: HOW DO I ORGANIZE MY STUDY? WHAT PRINCIPLE CAN I USE TO FOCUS MY READING?
There are lifetime reading plans, like fr. Hardon's, I know about them. Guess I'm asking if there is a syllabus, like colleges have, that I can refer to.
Excuse my rambling.
DavidR. Sungenis: David, first, you are not an old guy. You are 58 years young. 85 is old
As to your question about organization, I suggest you get a copy of Ludwig Ott's "Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma." He has the best systematic theology for Catholicism ever written. Go through it topic by topic and look up his references as you go. That should do it for you.FOLLOW-UP
Dr. Sungenis,
Thank you, twice. First for answering mu question. I think Ott's book is available from Tan. Second, for explaining the Catholic faith in a manner that does not 'dumb donw' the hard truths God wants to know about who he is.
David
