    Response to P. Catan

    Mr. Sungenis said:
"Furthermore, I don’t know what 'less than savory' views of the Jews are. 'Savory' according to who? In any case, all my views of the Jews, whatever they may have been, have been removed from our website, and as of this date there is no official views on the Jews from Robert Sungenis unless it appears on our website and in published articles."

This is just weird.  Is he pretending that he doesn't remember the horrid things he said about Jews?  Is this a game to him?

Is he trying to say he doesn't believe anymore the stuff he said in this video????
If so, then why play a game?  Why not come out and say openly that he takes back these things and that he's sorry?

To P. Catan and all patrons of our apostolate and other interested parties:

I think it’s about time I addressed this infamous video made of me. Apparently, it was created by two Jewish people, Paul Tarsax and Mendel Levine. They first had the video on YouTube. Contrary to Tarsax’s claims, the video was not removed from Youtube because the material was “too graphic and upsetting,” but because my lawyer wrote to Youtube and advised them to remove it because it was libelous and went against Youtube’s stated policies. So Tarsax and Levine transferred the video to Google, and now my lawyer is in deliberations with Google to have the video removed for the same reasons.

Before I engaged my lawyer, I contacted Tarsax through email and asked him to remove the video, stating that I no longer wished to speak publically about these topics and that all such material was removed from our website. Mr. Tarsax did not respond, thus I contacted my lawyer.

These quotes don’t exist any longer, they have not been reiterated, and they never will be. Whether right or wrong, I took them down so there could be peace between me and my Jewish opponents. But obviously, some people have an agenda to destroy me no matter what I do to rectify the situation, and thus they have made this highly inflammatory video and are determined to smear me with it despite my current position.

For those of you who have not seen the video, although it may rightfully contest my political views on the Jews, it did so with a backdrop of Nazi concentration camps in every single footage. Obviously, in order to smear me publically, Tarsax and Levine chose to use the demagoguery approach and make it appear as if criticism of the Jews leads directly to the death of the Jews, and that I would be directly responsible for their deaths. The same approach has been used by others when dealing with me.

This may surprise you, but I understand their position. There is a fine line between criticizing the Jews and stirring up anti-Jewish sentiment, since many people, both Jew and Gentile, do not seem to have the ability to distinguish the two. I can also understand how and why, when my quotes are isolated and placed in this video, people who view it would react negatively and think I’m some kind of monster. My intentions could be very easily misunderstood, and the potentiality of that is very high.

Hence, because such political, cultural and social criticism of the Jews can so easily be misunderstood, I have decided to refrain from any more dealings with those aspects of Jewish life. I’ll leave criticism of Jewish politics and culture to people more capable than I apparently am. My expertise is in theology, and that is where I will put all my efforts. Hence, any future dealings that I have with the Jews, whether on our website or in published articles, will only concern the theological side of things.  As you can see by the Jewish material presently on our website, every article is about theological matters, and that will always be the policy of our apostolate from here on out.

Finally, whatever quotes are on that video, and whatever other quotes have been stored by various people from previous things I’ve said about the Jews that may be in other places on the web, I disavow myself of all of them. Further, I retract and apologize for anthing I have said about the Jews presented in that video. Although some of the material in those quotes I will reserve the right to hold and believe in my personal thoughts because I believe the material to be factual, nevertheless, I will not be expressing those opinions in my speeches, articles, website or any other public venue. Again, I will only be expressing my thoughts in public that deal with the theological dimensions, as our apostolate has done for the past several months.

If anyone has any questions or comments about anything I have written above, please contact me at cairomeo@aol.com and I will be happy to answer any of questions or make any needed clarifications.

    God be with you all.

    Robert Sungenis

  • That's a good start.   I think it's hopeful Mr. Sungenis wrote this.   He's probably got a long way to go before everyone can move on  though.  A lot of things have happened over a few years so it'll take time. But every long road starts with a first step.

One thing, though.  Not to be a nit-picker, how was it libel if Mr. Sungenis said the things on the video?   For it to be libel, it has to untrue.   The video has weblinks to where everything was said and Mr. Sungenis just said he apologizes for the things  on the video.  If he didn't say them

, then he wouldn't apologize for it.  So he must have said it.  And so it can't be libel then.

Not to take away from a good first step though.

  • Mr. Sungenis is theologically precise in so many things.  We all make mistakes, however, and I'm just glad mine don't get any visibility.  More importantly, he has pledged his support to be under the authority of his Bishop, and that's an excellent approach and salient verification of his intent to move on.  Following the Bishop doesn't make the Bishop necessarily right or Mr. Sungenis wrong, but it is appropriate with respect to the truth of Christ, e.g., as the Faith that St. Paul speaks of in his Epistle to the Romans both begins and ends with the "obedience of faith."  Mr. Sungenis' work shows a fire for God and His Church, and hence much of the fruit of the Catholic Faith is very clearly explained by his indepth explanations of modern issues that impact the ancient Church that is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow in Doctrine.  That he has a desire to state these truths clearly is self evident, but at the same time he's willing to be obedient to the very structure Jesus Himself place over us; the mistake referred to was corrected by such willing obedience.  That is no small point in a world that says "me, me, me, I'm right...drop dead, I want, and I think," as their gospel.  I wish the Jesuits had so much adherence to the Faith and I wouldn't have friends that are so confused; I cringe every time one speaks to see what side of the aisle they fall on, yet remember with love on great Jesuit Priest who in all his wisdom was devoutly obedient to the Church -- the type of man who shut down abortion clinics by his brilliance and devotion.  He was a lot like Mr. Sungenis.  We all make mistakes, but few are such theological giants as Mr. Sungenis.  Yet he is still willing to make himself obedient to Christ's Church and appointed Bishop and share his God given gift with us; this leads to great things, because God will work through any weaknesses.  His comments are definitely the right direction.

    God Bless all,

    Andy

  • @P. Catan - Although I am not sure of my lawyer's precise reasoning, I believe "libelous" was used because we disavowed ourselves of the statements in writing to Paul Tarsax; the statements were no longer published by CAI; and the statements were taken out of context by Paul Tarsax. ~R-Sungenis

  • Hi Robert it is my very pleasure to be not only and totally sopported of your wright cricism on the Zionism agenda but, you should not refrain from disclosure theirs very pervasive bias agaist the Catholic Church in general, and against our Lord Christ in particular. Now, Jerry Springer his totally Zionist, and take a look about his outrages ofense to the Triune God but also, of His Holy Temple: His most Holy Mother.

Finally, my question begs for an apologize from these Zionists; are they free to mocke when ever  they please against our Faith? and we, Catholics, refrain point them out for fare to be called Anti-Zionist?

"Who ever denids me before the Synagogue of satan, I will denid him before my Father." For the sake of Charity we have the duty to denounced all this blasphemes agaist our Lord.

Let uas pray to the Virgen of Fatima for the conversion of these blasphemers.

    God Bless you Robert.

  • I don't get why this has to keep going on.  Every time I think things might finally get better, something else comes out and I find out things aren't the way I thought they were.
I made the mistake of reading more of the blog where the video is and ruined my lunch.   Did anyone at CAI read what's up there now?

    http://cadl.blogspot.com/2008/01/doctor-bob-esquire.html
    Will this all ever end?

I'm to the point where I really wish Mr. Sungenis would just let it go.   Let the Jews be.  The sky isn't going to come crashing down if he does.   But his apostolate looks like it might and that would be a terrible loss.  Its already been hurt badly.  There are so many things where he's needed and he's done great work and it's all being crowded out because of this.

  • @Brian Guidi -

Brian, the reason we have to continue is that there are some people in cyberspace, like Paul Tarsax and Mendel Levine, who make it their business to twist and distort everything I say, because they have one goal in mind -- my demise. One look at their video and you can see what it was designed to do. One read of their most recent "Doc Sungenis" screed and you know you are dealing with twisted minds who think that guesses are as good as facts. Unfortunately, it looks like they have people like you believing them.

YouTube and find out why his video was deleted and who was behind it.

Pennsylvania, so obviously, Mr. Tarsax is not going to find him in that area. Mr. Andrews is a consultant, not our legal representative, and therefore he doesn't have to live in our state.

YouTube email box by the email address cairomeo@aol.com. Mr. Tarsax verified that himself. So why is he making such a big deal over the fact that it was an email written on his Youtube account as opposed to being sent to his normal email account? Only someone looking for an excuse for his behavior and a desire to lead you astray would complain about different electronic vehicles for the message we sent him.

Fact #4: Mr. Tarsax didn't respond, regardless how the message was sent. If he was so puzzled, as he claims, by the content of the email, he could have easily alieved his concerns if he had bothered to write back and inquire about the contents. Obviously, Mr. Tarsax didn't want to write back, because he had no intention of removing the video.

YouTube and report Mr. Tarsax, which he did, and was successful, since Mr. Tarsax's video is no longer on YouTube. If Mr. Tarsax was as honorable as he is pretending to be, he would have taken down the video based on what we told him in our email, without being forced to do so by Youtube.

Google, all the while knowing (because we told him in the email we sent through Youtube) that we have disavowed ourselves from the comments in question and that they don't appear on our website.

So who is being dishonest, Brian? We who confront Mr. Tarsax with the facts, or Mr. Tarsax who ignores our pleas and makes up fallacious comments stating that I am Mr. Andrews?

I think you should recognize that Mr. Tarsax's latest screed is nothing but a desperate attempt to take the spotlight off of his unethical behavior by attempting to do guess work to make me look like a liar. Everything we did has been verified. Everything Mr. Tarsax has said is a distortion or downright falsehood. So, if you want it to stop, Brian, I suggest you ask Mr. Tarsax to take down his video and stop making false accusations against me. Only then will I not have to defend myself against people like him.

Finally, who is this “Paul Tarsax”? Click on his bio page and nothing is there except his name. Click on Mendel Levine and nothing is there except his name. Obviously, they are trying to hide their identities and with whom they are associated. People know who I am because I’m a public figure and they know from whence I come and what I stand for. But we know nothing about Paul Tarsax and Mendel Levine. For all we know, they are not even Catholic. Since the commandeered the name of the ADL, they could be members of the ADL posing as Catholics (and which wouldn’t be the first time the ADL has done so). In fact, we might ask how Tarsax and Levine could be Catholic, since they are promoting Judaism on their site as a valid and viable religion that people can practice with impunity, and attack people such as E. Michael Jones and Joseph Sobran who are pointing out the fallacies and anti-Christian tenets of Judaism? I hope you see my point.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Robert Sungenis

  • Sadly, hit pieces and drive-by style journalism will never leave Sungenis alone, he is now a marked man-unless he repudiates 2000 yrs Catholic Tradition and spouts the same garbage of Assisi 2002

  • mark my words, Joe Sobran has already been mugged, E.Michael Jones is next. yes-the One World religion is on its way.

  • is Sungenisandthejews site going down? All that is needed there is to delete blog, etc.

  • Dear Dr.Sungenis,

I sincerely appreciate the dignity that you keep showing in responding to your opponents.  Keep your held high and pray for those who speak ill of you.And to all the Jews who read this, turn to Jesus and be saved in His one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.  There is salvation in no other. With prayers for you Dr.Eric

  • To all concerned,

Dr. Sungenis let me know that there is some confusion as to my identity.  My name is Colin Andrews.  I am an attorney licensed in Indiana.  You can find my name on the rolls which are public documents.  I served for a short time as a legal consultant with Dr. Sungenis and no longer serve in any capacity for CAI or for Dr. Sungenis in any way.  As a consultant, my role was solely that of a help on legal matters such as whether certain pieces could be considered defamatory in tort law.

I met Robert many years ago and am indebted to him for much of my return to the Catholic Church after reading his "Not By..." material and listening to him speak on Protestant/Catholic issues.    I think this exegetical work is still the greatest strength of CAI and recommend those materials to all interested in the Catholic faith.  I take no position over the current back-and-forth over Jewish/Catholic issues other than the fact that it is my prayer that we do not lose the forest for the trees.  That is to say, in the end, charity is the highest of all virtues and I feel that, on all sides, much of what I have read today, right at the beginning of Lent, could be construed as anything but charitable.  I can say confidently that having known Dr. Sungenis for awhile now, I have never had an occasion of personal dialogue where I found him to be anything other than forthright and transparent.

I have searched for an email address for the CADL and called their number posted but only got a message.  I was reluctant to give out my office number, home number or email address over the phone so I suggested to CAI that I write here and then leave a message for Mr. Tarsax and Mr. Levine.  I am bothered that I would have to supply my information to individuals who provide no direct contact information and who may or may not be using their real names.  I guess the fact that it is public and discoverable by all makes this merely a point of etiquette and gentlemanliness, but I would hope that the clearly intelligent people on all sides would indeed, as the CADL website says, proceed "in the hopes of advancing relations between all peoples in the spirit of Pope John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and the Second Vatican Council."

Having stated what I have, I hope that I have cleared up this issue, put it to rest, and  would like to wish you all well.  I have no present relationship with CAI and do not intend to involve myself any further with this issue in any way on this forum or any other.  Thank you.

Beneath the blue mantle of Our Lady,

    Colin Andrews

  • "as the CADL website says, proceed "in the hopes of advancing relations between all peoples in the spirit of Pope John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and the Second Vatican Council."
