Question 123 - CMRI (Sedevacantist Order)

    Mr. Sungenis,

Are the CMRI (Sedevacantist) priest's valid (true) priest's in the Catholic Church?

    In Maria,

    Frank

    R. Sungenis: No. Unless they are under a legitimate bishop, they cannot function as priests. Bishop Pivarunus is not a valid bishop. He is an unrepentant apostate, the blind leading the blind.

  • Mr Sungenis,

Why would you say he is not a valid bishop?  He was consecrated by a bishop who was consecrated in the old rite by Bishop Thuc.  If you want a complete story, read "The Answers" by Fr Vallaincourt.  As for being in apostasy, that is a serious charge.  What doctrine of the Church has he denied?  Vatican Cardinal Mario Pompedda stated in 2005 that the canonical law of the Church is that if the pope was a heretic, he would lose the papal office.

I think you owe Bp Pivarunus an apology.  There is plenty of evidence to be found at crmi.org and other sites to give proof to their arguements.

  • Validity and apostasy have nothing to do with each other. Bishop Pivarunas was ordained and consecrated in the Traditional Rites by a valid Bishop. The Greek Orthodox are not Catholic, but are have valid orders, just like CMRI.
